Phidim, October 1
Gold and silver traders have been found using measuring tools that don’t meet even basic standards in Phidim of Panchthar.
A marketing monitoring team during a routine inspection in the district headquarters Phidim today found that gold and silver traders were using such measuring tools to cheat customers. The team in collaboration with Department of Measurement and Quality Control, Biratanagr had monitored as many as 37 gold and silver shops. The operators of the shops were found not to have renewed their registration and were using measuring tools that did not even meet basic standards.
Assistant inspector Anuja Ghimire of the Department of Measurement and Quality Control, said the market monitoring team had seized measuring tools that did not meet the specified standards.
“We immediately seized such measuring tools as the customers had been cheated while purchasing the precious metals,” she informed. She said orders had been issued to gold and silver entrepreneurs who had not renewed their registration to do so within the next working five days.
CDO Kiran Thapa, DSP Nakul Pokhrel, Senior Vice-chair of Panchthar chapter of Chamber of Commerce and Industry Govinda Dhakal, Gold and Silver Entrepreneurs Union Panchthar Chairman Bimal Dhamala among others were reported to be in the market monitoring team.
