Gold smuggling accused, Wangdel, reports to court

BIRATNAGAR: Following in the footsteps of SSP Shyam Bahadur Khatri, another prime accused of the infamous gold smuggling and murder case, Tsering Wangdel alias David has turned himself to District Court, Morang, today.

Police had kept Wangdel under its search list under suspicions that the accused had a part to play in robbing 33 kg gold which was smuggled into Nepal by Chudamani Upreti and his associates. Wangdel is the brother-in-law of RPP leader Bhujung Gurung who earlier had admitted investing in gold smuggling.

In his statement to the court, Chudamani Upreti alias Gorey, one of the prime accused, had alleged Wangdel of running the gold smuggling racket.

Following his surrender, a single bench of District Judge Narayan Prasad Sharma has begun recording his statement.
