Govt abusing its powers, says NC leader

Pokhara, June 15

Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa today argued that democracy was at peril because the government was abusing its powers.

Speaking at an interaction organised in Pokhara today, leader Thapa said the law and constitution were not an obstacle to development. He said nobody was above the law. “If anybody avoids the law, it means s/he doesn’t abide by the Supreme Court and the Election Commission,” argued Thapa.

On a different note, he said the ministers of the incumbent government were motivated by vested interests. He also urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to work for the development and prosperity of the country with a clear vision. “Now there is no point making this or that excuse for not developing the country as now we have a stable government, which commands almost two-thirds majority in the Parliament,” he added.

Thapa was of the opinion that it was an opportunity for the Oli-led government to work for the development of the country for complete five years. He also vowed that his party was ready to play the role of a constructive opposition.
