Government doctors halt health services across country
Kathmandu, February 22
Government doctors halted health services, except emergency, throughout the country today.
Government Doctors’ Association of Nepal, which has been staging symbolic protest in a bid to pressure the government to adjust all government doctors through the federal government, said they were compelled to halt services due to government’s indifference to their demands.
Dr Dipendra Pandey, president of GODAN, said many people were affected after government doctors halted health services. “But the government is responsible for all this,” he said.
Meanwhile, government doctors today took out a rally from Bir Hospital to Maitighar Mandala. “We also staged sit-in protest in hospitals. Government doctors in Kathmandu staged protest on the premises of Bir Hospital.”
Nepal Medical Association has also expressed solidarity with the demand of government doctors. Issuing a press statement, NMA urged the government to fulfil the demands of government doctors.
Government doctors have been staging protest for last two months. They have been demanding that the government adjust them through the federal government, not the provincial ones. Dr Dhundi Raj Paudel, senior vice president of NMA claimed that the adjustment bill had been formulated by the people who do not have any idea on the medical sector.
