Govt equips Kaski farmers to deal with climate change

Pokhara, June 9

The Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Building Project Management Unit under the Ministry for Agriculture Development recently distributed materials to local farmers of Kaski district, aiming to minimise climate change-related risks that they were exposed to.

With the recommendation of Agriculture Development Office and Livestock Service Office of the district, the unit distributed smart phones, SIM cards and thermometers, among other materials, to 43 farmer groups.

Pumdibhumdi Agriculture Group chairman Khem Raj Baral said farmers would be able to plan in advance and avoid possible disasters as per prior information provided through the equipment.

The district witnesses climate change-induced disasters every year. Chief at Agriculture Development Office Lokendra Bohora said the materials were distributed to farmers, hoping that the farmers would be able to minimise disasters triggered by climate change.
