Government has lost credibility, says Nepal
Kathmandu, May 7:
0General secretary of the CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal said today that the interim government had lost credibility, as it failed to hold constituent assembly poll on the date declared by the eight parties.
“After the success of the second Jana Andolan II, the peace process has moved ahead to some extent; interim constitution 2007 has been promulgated and the interim government has also been formed. But the government has failed to achieve the goal of holding the CA elections on time,” Nepal said at a press meet held at the party headquarters, Balkhu.
Nepal said the meeting of the interim legislature has remained disrupted for the last three weeks; the verification process of the registered Maoist combatants has also been obstructed and security situation in the country has not improved.
A press statement issued conference expressed concern about the high-handedness on the part of the pro-Maoist Young Communist League, which has created anarchy in the country. “Situation has further complicated, as the Maoists are not ready to return the property seized during the conflict,” the statement added.
He urged Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala to immediately call a meeting of the eight parties to discuss those issues and fix the date of assembly elections.
He said the eight parties must come up with a common stance on the issue of democratic republic and the parties must reach a consensus to run the regular business of the House as well as address the issues raised by Madhesis and Janajatis.
Nepal said no problems would be resolved by shying away from the given responsibility. “We must be able to identify our weaknesses while preserving achievements of the Jana Andolan II,” Nepal said. Laying emphasis on eight-party unity, Nepal said the parties must fulfil the people’s mandate of holding the assembly elections at the earliest.
