Government schools charging students for character certificate

Some state-owned schools in Tanahun have been found charging students for character certificate after completion of Secondary Education Examinations.

Talbeshi Secondary School in Shukla Gandaki Municipality -9 was found charging SEE graduates Rs 5,000 for character certificate. “No school is allowed to charge students for character certificate. Having learnt about such practice, I directed concerned schools to return the amount,” said District Education Officer Rudra Hari Bhandari.

DEO Bhandari pledged to take action against schools found collecting money from students on one or the other pretext.

Nepal Student Union’s attention was drawn towards the trend and a memorandum signed by NSU district president Chudamani Khanal and Secretary Bimal Giri was submitted to DEO today.
