Government shielding the corrupt, says Nepal Tarun Dal Chair Basnet

Pokhara, January 25

Nepali Congress youth wing Nepal Tarun Dal central chairman Jitjung Basnet today accused Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of actively shielding the corrupt.

Addressing a protest rally against the government in Pokhara, Basnet charged that Prime Minister Oli was working in the interest of rapists, corrupt and mafias. “The government is violating the constitution and democratic norms,” he said and threatened to launch an agitation against the government if it did not mend its ways.

Basnet alleged that Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari and Minister of Water Supply Bina Magar had embezzled millions of rupees. “PM Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal, however, are shielding them,” he claimed.

Stating that  they had no choice but to launch massive street protest as the government had ignored the demands of Dr Govinda KC, who has been staging his 16th hunger strike demanding reforms in the medical education sector, Basnet flayed the government for failing to book the culprit(s) behind the rape and murder of Niramala Panta of Bhimdatta Municipality though six months had passed since the incident.

Gandaki Province lawmaker Krishna Chandra Nepali said the government with two-thirds majority had put democracy in peril. He condemned the government decision to scrap two hospitals named after late NC leaders Girija Prasad Koirala and Sushil Koirala.
