KATHMANDU, JUNE 8

CPN-UML lawmaker Krishna Gopal Shrestha has demanded that the government ensure prompt management of Kathmandu valley's solid waste.

Seeking time in the special hour of the House of Representatives meeting today, the lawmaker said, "The valley's denizens are irritated by piles of trash uncollected for several days in households, roadsides and open spaces. The problem should be addressed without any further delay."

He was of the view that the voices of Sisdole and Bancharedanda people should be addressed in a bid to remove obstructions in waste management. He said mutual understanding was required to find a solution to the issue rather than the use of force.

He also sought the government's assurance as well as the speaker's ruling towards that end.

Likewise, Yagya Bahadur Bogati expressed concern about the politicisation of the murder of a student in Achham. He drew the attention of the government to the need to bring to book the perpetrator(s) in the killing of Binod Shahi.

Meanwhile, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota said his serious attention was drawn to the incident and ruled that the government proceed with an investigation into the case.
