Government slammed for not probing envoy Sherpa

Kathmandu, December 5

The main opposition Nepali Congress issued a press release today saying it had taken serious note of recent news reports alleging that Nepal’s Ambassador to Australia Lucky Sherpa was involved in human trafficking.

The party also said that it objected to the government’s silence and inaction on the issue even when the allegation of human trafficking against Ambassador Sherpa was levelled by her aide in Australia.

“An ambassador’s post is not a salaried post but a serious responsibility of representing a country’s image in a foreign country,” the Nepali Congress said.

“Therefore, we remind the government of its obligation to immediately find the truth about the allegation levelled against the ambassador,” the release added.

The NC demanded that the government immediately investigate the matter, by summoning Ambassador Sherpa to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and punish her if she was found guilty of any wrongdoing. Sherpa’s driver Wongchhu Sherpa had accused the ambassador and her husband of human trafficking.
