‘Govt working against democracy’

Lamjung, June 8

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba today accused the incumbent government of working against democracy.

Addressing a programme organised to conclude the first phase of his party’s awareness campaign in Lamjung’s Dudhpokhari Rural Municipality, Deuba charged that the KP Oli-led government had seized democracy and civil rights achieved through a long struggle and political movement.

He also alleged that the government infringed jurisdiction of independent judiciary and attempted to curtail press freedom and human rights.

Deuba pledged that his party would not allow the passage of the anti-civil rights bills at any cost.

Noting that the Oli-led government had become authoritarian, Deuba argued that his party needed to fight for democracy and freedom, once again.

At the programme, Nepali Congress Spokesperson Biswo Prakash Sharma said the party had contributed to establishing peace in the country and promulgating the constitution. He accused the incumbent government of trying to seize people’s rights and democracy.
