Govt appeal disheartens locals

KATHMANDU: As the garbage row continues and the city starts stinking, reinforcing the decision on Kathmanduites to dump the garbage at home sounds a Herculean challenge to the government.

City folks today termed the notice issued by the Home Ministry urging them to keep garbage at home a ‘sheer stupidity’.

The Ministry had issued the notice late evening yesterday urging them to cooperate with the government and not to throw the trash into the streets.

Stating that the garbage poses public health hazard, environmental problems, and traffic nuisance, it had urged the people not to throw the trash into the streets and public places.

Responding to the plea, Naresh Maharjan, a local resident of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No 32, today remarked: “This is a sheer stupidity of the government to order us to

dump garbage at home instead of solving the root of the problem.”

“The agitators, who want to fulfill their vested interest, have troubled the people by calling strikes,” he added.
