Govt asked not to ignore republican agenda

Kathmandu, May 27 :

Janamorcha Nepal today demanded that the government should not ignore the agenda of democratic republic.

Addressing an interaction organised by the party, vice chairman of JMN, Lila Mani Pokhrel, said only abolition of the monarchy would lead mean the success of the people’s movement. “It is politically, economically, culturally and religiously harmful to see King in the palace when we have made a historic leap forward through the Jana Andolan,” he said.

Political unrest will remain until the monarchy itself is uprooted, he said.

Pokhrel also said that brining the army under parliament is not as easy as issuing the declaration. “It will take time to see army free itself from the royal clutches,” he said.

Nawaraj Subedi, the general-secretary of JMN, said though democratic republic was not the final goal of the party, the party had accepted it as the most suitable form of action plan to go ahead with.
