Govt bid to strengthen Nepali film industry

Secretary at the Ministry of Information and Communications, Lokman Singh Karki, has said that the government was ready to take any decision to strengthen the country’s film industry.

Addressing the business integration agreement ceremony of the Gopi Krishna Movies Pvt Ltd and the Guna Cinema Pvt Ltd here today, Karki urged the people in the film industry to come forward with an integrated suggestion for the development of the cinema in Nepal. He said the government was thinking of giving a general exemption on the tax being levied on films.

Karki expressed the view that that the National Film festival going to take place in the near future will enhance the glory and prestige of Nepal and also honour the people in the film industry. On the occasion, Karki released a cassette album containing the songs of Ukali Orali, a Nepali feature film produced by Dr Bhola Rijal. Chairman of the Gopi Krishna Movies, Uddhav Poudel, expressed confidence the film industry will gain momentum after the amalgamation of two cinema houses. Industrialists Binod Bahadur Shrestha, Chandi Dhakal, Rajesh Kaji Shrestha, stressed the need for the promotion of national film industry.
