Govt declares public holiday tomorrow for Chhath festival

KATHMANDU: The government on Thursday has decided to declare public holiday tomorrow for the celebration of Chhath festival.

Issuing a statement today, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced to extend the public holiday even on Friday in course of the Chhath Puja.

Chhath festival is mostly celebrated, by people of Madhes origin, in all terai district across the nation.

The festival is dedicated to the Sun God, with offerings made to the rising and setting sun. It is observed for four days, from Kartik Shukala Chaturthi to Kartik Shukla Saptami as per the lunar calendar.

Chhath — a festival of holiness, good will and faith — is being celebrated across the nation with fanfare.
