Govt has failed on all fronts: Sushil

Kathmandu, January 14:

Nepali Congress acting president Sushil Koirala today said the government was a failure on all fronts and criticised Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal for discrediting the Jana Andolan II that helped establish democracy and republic in the country.

“He himself is in power and still talks of capturing the state power through arms and revolt. Such kind of public statements are totally against the spirit of democratic values,” said Koirala at a Reporters’ Club programme.

The NC leader said it was against the letters and spirit of the 12-point understanding to denigrate the 2006 peaceful Jana Andolan and eulogise the People’s War, which caused death of thousands of people.

“He still talks of establishing People’s Republic whereas the need of the hour is to institutionalise the hard-earned republic through the new constitution,” Koirala said, adding that his party, which fought for democracy for decades, would not fear of the Maoist threat to resort to arms.

Koirala flayed the Unified CPN-Maoist for dragging the national army into controversy

by putting barriers to its bid to fill the vacant seats in the army.

He claimed that the army decision to fill the vacant posts was not against the Comprehensive Peace Accord.

He also accused the Maoists of appointing murder-accused Kali Bahadur Kham Magar to a central committee berth of the party.
