Biratnagar, November 3:

Minister for Education Renu Kumari Yadav today said the government will not collect education

tax from students and guardians.

“The government will collect the cess from schools on the basis of their income and standard,” she clarified. She said the government was ready to search for alternatives to it.

“We cannot exempt the education tax, though we are ready to explore options,” she said.

“The cess is being imposed to provide better education to Dalits, Janjatis, the poor and the needy students.” She said the issue would be resolved after holding talks with associations of schools.
