Govt lifts fuel ration, LPG to be supplied in full cylinders
KATHMANDU: The Supplies Ministry on Monday decided to lift rationing of petroleum products and supply the liquefied petroleum gas in full cylinders.
The decision would come into effect from tomorrow, according to Deepak Subedi, the Spokesperson at the Ministry of Supplies.
Earlier, the government had imposed rationing of fuel as there was acute crisis of petroleum products due to the blockade at the Nepal-India border points.
Supplies of petroleum products, including liquefied petroleum gas, have increased after the end of border blockade in the first week of February.
There was shortage of cylinders at factories to refill gas due to circulation of half-filled cylinders in the market.
As the LPG bullets coming from India could not unload their consignments owing to the limited storage capacity of bottlers and shortage of cylinders, the government decided to distribute full cylinders of cooking gas now on, according to Subedi.
Spokesperson Subedi said rationing of petrol and diesel was lifted to prevent serpentine queues and make the supply smoother.
Now, private and public vehicles can fill fuel as per their need from fuel stations. Earlier, motorcycles were given 5 litres of petrol, while other vehicles were given 15 litres of diesel or petrol.
