KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 8

The government of Germany is set to provide approximately Rs5.9 billion in grant assistance to Nepal. The Finance Minister has been authorized by the government to sign the agreement in this regard.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, shared this information during a press briefing on Friday, providing details about the decisions made during Thursday's Cabinet meeting.

During the meeting, it was decided to finalize the draft agreement for a loan of around Rs 13 billion from the World Bank. Additionally, a negotiation team, led by the Joint-Secretary of the Finance Ministry, was formed to discuss the terms with the World Bank.

The government spokesperson, Minister Sharma, also announced the decision to accept a grant assistance of 2 million US dollars from Saudi Arabia. This assistance will be used to establish a Polytechnic Institute and purchase chemical fertilizer.

Furthermore, Minister Sharma mentioned that the government has accepted grant assistance from the Indian government for the implementation of the 'High Impact Community Development Project.'

This grant will also be utilized to establish a quarantine check post at Trinagar checkpoint in Kailali and Suthauli checkpoint in Kapilvastu for the quarantine of plants and plant products.

In a related development, the Cabinet appointed Rudra Prasad Gautam as the Chairperson of the Water Tariff Fixing Commission, with Yashoda Karki and Kul Bhusan Shekhar Sharma appointed as members.

The government also approved the Integrated National Social Security Framework, 2080, presented by the Finance Ministry, as well as the Infrastructure Committee and the National Insurance Policy, 2080.
