Govt to step up security in east Tarai

The government is making special security arrangements in highly sensitive districts of the east Tarai for the constituent assembly (CA) polls, a police official said today.

Taking into account the increase in cases of murder, violence, abduction, terror and looting, special security arrangements will be made in the highly sensitive districts for the polls, DIGP of the Armed Police Force (APF) in the eastern region, Thakur Mohan Shrestha, said.

Shrestha was speaking at the third conference of the APF Baraha brigade in Pakali of Sunsari today.

“The deployment of security personnel on the basis of sensitivity has begun,” Shrestha said. APF election security base camps have been established in each constituency in Siraha, Saptari and Sunsari districts and additional security arrangements have been made in Siraha and Saptari districts, he said.

A total of 104 persons involved in criminal activities have been arrested along with 19 weapons and bullets recently, a source at the brigade said.

The manner and ways of fulfilling the responsibility of the APF in the CA polls will be discussed in the two-day conference, SSP of the brigade Kamal Basnet said. Branch chiefs of the brigade, chiefs of battalions, border security offices, revenue and customs patrols, election unit chiefs and chiefs of the APF base camps are taking part in the conference.
