Biratnagar, March 23:

Noise of gunfire and bomb explosions today made life tensed in Dharan of Sunsari and Kakadvitta of Jhapa.

Maoists exploded bombs and fired gunshots around the Dantakali area this evening, said the locals adding that the sounds were related to firing and bomb explosions. Later, a team of RNA personnel reached the area and conducted massive search.

Meanwhile, the Maoists tried to attack a team of patrolling security forces at Bhansarnaka of Kakadvitta today. The Mechi Custom point in Kakadvitta remained closed for few hours following the incident. Security forces retaliated the Maoist firing in the area, a source said. However, there was no casualty.

Security in the region is kept at highest alert after the Maoists simultaneously attacked different places, the security source said, adding security organs have made reliable security arrangement to stop infiltration of Maoists into Nepal.

SP at the District Police Office, Morang, Jagat Bista, said he has directed the forces personnel in the Urlabari base camp to remain in high alert.
