Gurung recommeded as CoAS

KATHMANDU: The cabinet today decided to recommend to President Dr Ram Baran Yadav acting Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Chhatraman Singh Gurung as the CoAS with effect from September 9.

CoAS Rookmangud Katawal is on a month-long customary leave from August 9. He will retire after Gurung is appointed as the CoAS by the President as per the Cabinet's recommendation. The Cabinet also decided to extend the tenure of Brigadier General Bikash Bikram Shah and Colonel Krish Sumsher Rana and Tej Man Singh Basnet. It also instructed all the ministries to furnish their 100-day progress report to the government. The ministries have been urged to implement the relief and rehabilitation packages for flood and landslide-hit victims.

A three-member panel will be formed, headed by the Minister for Education, to recommend members of the Education Service Commission. The vice-chancellor of the Tribhuvan University and secretary of the Education Ministry will be a part of this soon-to-be formed committee. The Cabinet also approved the setting up of a Foreign Employment Promotion Board. While, Dr Kedar Chandra Sharma has been appointed as the advisor to the Ministry of Environment and Population. Ram Chandra Adhikari appointed as the chairman of Singhadurbar Baidyakhana Development Committee.
