KATHMANDU: Amidst various cultural programmes, Sherpas in the country are celebrating Gyalbo Lhosar today with gusto.

Sherpas throng the Buddhist monasteries and holy places to offer prayers to Lord Buddha and receive blessings from the elders. They also wish each other peace, prosperity and good health.

On the occasion, President Bidya Devi Bhandari has extended greetings to the Sherpa community.

In her message, the President wished the people from the Sherpa community peace, happiness, prosperity, good health, fraternity and progress.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has also expressed his greetings to the people of the community.

The government has declared public holiday today for the celebration.
