KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 1
A senior flight attendant of Himalaya Airlines successfully scaled Africa's highest peak becoming the first Nepali cabin crew to complete three of the seven summits.
According to expedition organizers, Omnika Dangol, the flight attendant of Himalaya Airlines, stood atop Mt Kilimanjaro (5,895m) in Tanzania on 31st August at around 10:00 am local time. "It was a non-technical peak but I made it to the top of the summit despite challenging weather conditions," Dangol told THT from Tanzania. Dangol said that she was on her mission to complete all the highest peaks in the seven continents.
Dangol made headlines in 2022 after she successfully scaled the world's highest peak becoming the first Nepali flight attendant to stand atop the roof of the world. "My mission is now to complete all seven summits," she said. Dangol has to climb four more peaks to achieve the feat. Dangol had scaled Europe's highest peak – Elbrus – on 20 August 2023.
Originally from Lalitpur, Dangol holds a degree in Travel & Tourism from the Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM). Her mountaineering journey began after trekking to Everest Base Camp in 2021, where she successfully ascended Mera Peak, Island Peak, and Lobuche Peak over nine days.
Beyond her personal goals, Dangol is driven by a greater purpose. Her Seven Summit Project aims to garner global support to help her establish an Elderly Parents' Home, providing a residence for elderly parents who may not have the fortune of living with their children in their later years. "This project is not just about the thrill of climbing the highest peak on each continent; it's also about making a difference in the world by raising awareness of the needs and struggles of elderly people," she explained.
In Dangol's Seven Summits journey, the remaining peaks to conquer are Aconcagua in South America, Denali in North America, Mt. Vinson in Antarctica, and Puncak Jaya in Australia-Oceania.
