Hailstorm wreaks havoc in Tanahun

DAMAULI: Property worth millions of rupees were destroyed as strong winds and hailstones dealt a heavy blow to Tanahun district on Thursday.

It has been learnt that the weather phenomena blew roofs of more than two dozen houses while ravaging farmlands with yet-to-harvest crops leading to losses of such a magnitude. However, the exact figures of the losses incurred by denizens have not yet been confirmed.

Houses belonging to Abilal Gurung, Man Bahadur Pariyar, Mina BK, Pushpa Raj Ojha, Bishnu Kumar Shrestha among others have been affected by the winds and rainfall in the district. Likewise, local Ved Kumar Shrestha lamented that the rainfall has caused damage to his agricultural produce.

Acting Chief at the District Agriculture Development Office Jyoti Chhetri informed that details of damage caused to the crops due to the hailstones and rainfall are yet to be ascertained.

Similarly, electricity supply was also disrupted at certain areas in Byas Municipality of the district after electricity pole was hit by the strong winds. Electricity was cut off in more than 200 households, it has been learnt.
