Haldibari RM village assembly disrupted
JHAPA, JUNE 24
Property worth millions was destroyed when a group of unruly individuals barged into the meeting hall when the village assembly meeting of Haldibari Rural Municipality was under way, in Jhapa, today.
Windowpanes, door, tables, chairs and other physical properties of the rural municipality were damaged when the band of unruly people forcefully entered the assembly venue and tried to disrupt the meeting. Local level people‘s representatives, however, were safe.
The group of attackers had entered the assembly venue on the pretext of submitting a memorandum.
Meanwhile, one participant on the condition of anonymity said that the rural municipality chair had plotted the incident. The chair had addressed the attackers, and left the assembly venue without concluding the assembly.
Chair Rabindra Kumar Lingden could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
Local level‘s representative charged that RM Chair Lingden might have hatched the conspiracy to disrupt the assembly meeting as he could not have his party‘s policies and programmes passed. He is from Rastriya Prajatantra Party, while the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) holds majority in the rural municipality.
