Headmaster accused of corporal punishment

Sankhuwasabha, December 5:

Singheshwori High School in Chungkhurung of Jalajala VDC-5, which was closed following a brawl between the headmaster and the students for past the past nine days, reopened today.

The students had shut down the school indefinitely after headmaster Thir Bahadur Rai thrashed a tenth grader Janasan Limbu (16) on November 26. Limbu’s both hands were fractured.

“A joint meeting between the school administration and the students’ organisations agreed to reopen the school from today,” Lokendra Shrestha, a teacher in the school, said. ANNFSU secretary Surya Kiran Bhandary said the school was opened keeping in view the upcoming second terminal examination.

The students had closed the school demanding punishment to the headmaster, provide compensation and treatment cost to the victimised student.

“The school has been opened for the duration of examinations and the agitation will continue soon after the examinations are held,” a student said.
