Health facilities shut

CHITWAN: Chitwan District Administration Office and District Public Health Office have suspended the operation of two health institutes in Chitwan from Sunday. Jaya Budhha Dental Clinic, as well as Laxmi Polyclinic, were shut for running sans licence. Public health officer Ishwori Pokhrel said the team had directed the doctors at Jaya Budhha to resume work only after the health facility obtains departmental permission.

Poacher hurt

RAUTAHAT: A youth was seriously injured when a gun he was illegally carrying in order to poach animals went off in Rautahat on Saturday night. Four youths had gone to hunt animals in a local Chandikhola forest at Chandrapur municipality of the district on Saturday. Police arrested Tortha Lama, 23, Nabin Khatri, 22 and Raju Lama, 18 of the locality who had accompanied Suraj on the illegal hunting expedition on Sunday morning. The injured — Suraj BK, 21 — has been receiving treatment at Bharatpur-based Chitwan Medical College and is under police surveillance. Police have recovered a pistol hidden in a dense bush in the forest, said DSP Sudhir Raj Shahi.

Rapist sentenced

PHIDIM: Panchthar District Court sentenced Ganesh Bahadur Rai, 70, of Lungrupa VDC to 11 years in prison on the charge of raping a mentally challenged girl of his village. District Judge Madhav Prasad Adhikari, who announced the verdict, ordered Rai to pay Rs 25,000 as compensation to the victim. The accused was held after an FIR was lodged by the kin of the 15-year-old girl on May 29.
