The government has started a process of incorporating families of Nepali migrant workers in health insurance policy.

The Health Insurance Board started process in this regard with an objective of taking the family members of the Nepali migrant workers to the access of easy and smooth health services. The Board has approved the 'Procedure to include the family members of the Nepali migrant workers in health insurance policy-2021' as stated by Health Insurance Act-2017.

Information Officer of the board Shovit Rijal said that the board had been holding discussion with the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security to implement the provision mentioned in the Act. He added the provision would be brought into implementation once the ministry approves it.

With the approval of the procedure, every person aspiring to go for foreign employment has to submit the updated identity card of the family members while acquiring his/her labour permit.

The board coordinating with the Department of Foreign Employment has to make arrangement to incorporate the family members of the Nepali migrant workers while providing labour permit for the same.

It is mentioned in the procedure that Nepali migrant workers have to renew the health insurance policy of the family members a month before its expiry date. The board writing a letter to its all province offices and district offices directed to lend necessary support, facilitate, and coordinate to incorporate the family members of Nepali migrant workers.
