Swamikartik Khapar Rural Municipality's failure to extend the tenure of the contract based health workers has led to the shut down of five health facilities in Bajura.
Newly-elected people's representatives have not renewed the tenure of contract-based employees that ended with the beginning of new fiscal year.
Phayalgaun Basic Health Unit Centre of Ward No 2, Kholikot Basic Community Health Unit Centre of Wad No 1, Bhurne Community Health Unit Centre of Ward No 4, Basic Health Centre Jera and Migu Community Health Unit Centre of wards 5 and 3 were closed down after the rural municipality did not renew the tenure of employees working on contract, according to CAO Parash Shahi.

Kartika BK,35, gave birth to a baby boy. As soon as BK underwent labour pain, she was taken to the health centre in the village. But, she was returned home for lack of health workers. Swamikartik Khapar Rural Municipality Chairman Bharat Bahadur Rokaya, however, said that he had asked health workers to continue their work. "We will renew the contract of the workers on the basis of their work performance," Rokaya said.
Nepali Congress has won Swamikartik Khapar Rural Municipality this time. Last time, the CPN- UML had won the local level. Local level has yet to renew the contract of workers appointed by former people's representatives.
