KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 27
Hearing of cases at the Supreme Court remained stalled today as well, as 15 justices were busy discussing their next move against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana, who faces accusation of seeking favour from the executive and delaying the hearing of cases filed against appointments to the constitutional bodies.
The 15 justices had met CJ Rana yesterday and had told him that he should resign from his post as he had brought down the dignity of his post, but Rana refused to quit.
CJ Rana assigned benches to all 15 attending justices but they did not conduct any hearing. Only Rana's single bench conducted hearing and issued show cause notices in two cases.
A Supreme Court source told THT that justices met the CJ in a full court meeting called to pass a condolence message on the passing away of former SC Justice Sharada Prasad Pandit, but the current stalemate was not discussed.
The source said that as of today, 15 justices were one on seeking CJ Rana's resignation.
The justices have not conducted any hearing in the past three days. The SC source said the justices were likely to discuss the SC stalemate with presidents of the Nepal Bar Association and the Supreme Court Bar Association.
