Hearing on Rayamajhi case

KATHMANDU: The parliamentary hearing special committee today asked Chief Justice (CJ) designate Min Bahadur Rayamajhi to attend the confirmation hearing scheduled for Thursday morning.

A meeting of the committee today decided to invite him in the hearing. Rayamajhi will have to present his mission, vision and goal while performing the top job in the judiciary to the committee.

A member of the committee told this daily that they would decide whether to confirm him for the post after quizzing him.

If confirmed, the President will be notified of the decision.

Govinda Kumar Upadhyay, judge, Appellate Court Butwal, and a commoner, Nirakar Nepali, filed separate complaints challenging his appointment as the Chief Justice.

Upadhyay alleged that Rayamajhi had flouted the judges' code of conduct by participating programmes organised by non-governmental organisations and international non-governmental organisations while Nepali urged the committee to select a fair justice for the top judicial post.

The member, however, termed the complaints baseless.
