Hetaunda man held for character assassination

KATHMANDU: Police said they arrested a youth from Hetaunda of Makawanpur district on charge of sexually and psychologically harassing a woman through his Facebook account.

Niraj Kumar Chaudhary aka Nirajbaba (29), a permanent resident of Kamane, Hetaunda Sub-Metropolitan City-8, was arrested by a team deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau from Buddha Chok of Hetaunda today.

Police said Chaudhary was involved in character assassination of one of his woman Facebook friends.

Chaudhary had made the victim a friend on his Facebook account while he was in Saudi Arabia on a job. While he returned Kathmandu, he had invited the victim to a hotel in the Capital.

Police said the suspect gave the woman some psychoactive drugs at the hotel before capturing some images in the compromising situation.

Later, he circulated those photos to his Facebook friends including the victim herself, thereby assassinating her character, police claimed.

He had called the victim at various places and forced for sex, according to police.

He would further warn her that he would take action against her if she revealed his bahaviours.

Police said he would be charged under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2007.

If convicted, Chaudhary would be fined upto Rs 100,000 or sent to jail for up to five years or both.
