Highway bandits have a free run in Palpa

Palpa, December 11:

A gang of bandits looted a dozen of vehicles at the Hiundekhola of Palpa Butwal road section of the Siddhartha highway on Wednesday night. The masked gang robbed the passengers at gunpoint.

The gang made away with properties worth of at least Rs three lakhs, the victims said. Businessman Hem Raj Neupane, one of the victims from Palpa Khanichhap, said that the gang of five dacoits looted seven trucks, two mini-buses, a motorbike and two vans.

The robbers looted properties worth Rs 150,000 and three mobile phone sets from the passengers of a bus heading for Pokhara in an excursion. Similarly, Rs 5,000 was robbed from the truck bound for Gulmi from Butwal and Rs 15,000 in cash and a mobile set was looted from the truck bound for Syangja, police said. Rs 15,000 was taken away from Neupane. However, the details are yet to be received.

Deputy superintendent of police Pawan Giri said a case of robbery on a bus and two trucks was reported to the police till midnight.
