CHITWAN, JANUARY 31

Farmers here have demanded immediate hike of milk price. They have also warned they will launch struggle if the unit price of milk is not increased at the earliest.

At a press conference here on Sunday, Chitwan Milk Producers Cooperative Association Limited warned that they would mount pressure on the concerned authority to increase the unit price.

They have demanded increment of Rs 15-20 in the milk price per litre. Association Chair Rudramani Neupane said they were preparing to launch agitation as the milk price has not been increased as pledged earlier.

It was shared that the government was preparing to increase milk price by Rs 10 per litre and provide Rs 7 to farmers and Rs 3 to the dairy industry.

He said this scheme would not maintain the unit cost of dairy farmers.

"With hefty rise in the price of feed and veterinary medicines, the unit production cost of a litre of milk has reached Rs 63," he said.
