HM, security chiefs leave for India

KATHMANDU: Home Minister ( HM) Bhim Bahadur Rawal left for India today at the invitation of his Indian counterpart P Chidambaram.

Minister Rawal is accompanied by Ramesh Chanda Thakuri, Inspector General of Nepal Police, Sanat Basnet, IGP Armed Police Force and Ashok Bhatta, Chief, National Investigation Department. The minister told reporters at the Tribhuvan International Airport that he would mainly discuss security issues with the Indian authorities. He will meet Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister P Chidambaram and various high-ranking officials.

A source at the Home Ministry said Extradition Treaty would be discussed during the visit. India has repeatedly expressed readiness for the treaty. “As India is ready, Nepal has also done some work in the regard. The process of signing the treaty will start after the visit,” said the source. Rawal had consulted with PM Madhav Kumar Nepal about the same.
