In the House of Representatives election held on March 5, Kathmandu-the district with the highest literacy rate-recorded a total of 8,197 invalid votes.

According to Thakur Prasad Bhattarai, the District Election Officer in Kathmandu, 1,226 votes were invalidated in Kathmandu Constituency No. 10, which has 83,301 registered voters. Of the 60,441 votes cast in the constituency, 59,215 were deemed valid.

In Constituency No. 9, a total of 933 votes were invalid. Out of 52,740 votes cast from 78,495 registered voters, 51,807 were declared valid.

Similarly, Constituency No. 8 recorded 623 invalid votes. Of the 54,794 votes cast from a total of 57,811 registered voters, 54,171 were valid.

Constituency No. 7 saw 805 votes rejected. From 44,857 votes cast out of 68,685 registered voters, 44,052 were counted as valid.

In Constituency No. 6, 811 votes were declared invalid. Out of 45,248 votes cast from 67,759 registered voters, 44,437 were deemed valid, according to the District Election Office in Kathmandu.

Constituency No. 5 recorded 902 rejected votes. Of the 51,969 votes cast from a total of 78,114 registered voters, 51,067 were valid.

Similarly, Constituency No. 4 had 862 invalid votes. Out of 50,963 votes cast from 76,251 registered voters, 50,101 were declared valid.

In Constituency No. 3, a total of 940 votes were rejected. Of the 44,190 votes cast from 64,479 registered voters, 43,250 were counted as valid.

Constituency No. 2 recorded 1,095 invalid votes. Out of 59,441 votes cast from 88,708 registered voters, 58,346 were declared valid.

Finally, in Constituency No. 1, 434 votes were invalidated. Of the 32,314 votes cast from 55,292 registered voters, 31,880 were deemed valid.

The Election Commission of Nepal has said it will release nationwide data on invalid votes on Tuesday after the completion of vote counting.

According to the latest data, around three to four percent of the votes cast nationwide are projected to be invalid, said Kul Bahadur GC, deputy spokesperson of the commission, while speaking to Rastriya Samachar Samiti.

He also noted that by this evening, a total of 9,523,000 votes under the proportional representation system have been counted.
