Election Commission to publish final proportional representation list on February 3
KATHMANDU, JANUARY 12
With 52 days remaining for the House of Representatives (HoR) elections, candidates listed under the proportional representation (PR) system have been given until 4:00 pm today to withdraw their nominations.
According to the Election Commission (EC), candidates included in the closed lists submitted by political parties on December 28 and 29 may withdraw their names within the deadline. The EC will notify the concerned party of any withdrawal, after which the party may nominate a replacement candidate.
The closed lists will be made public on January 18 to allow for claims and objections. Following an investigation into any complaints, the final PR list will be published on February 3.
A total of 64 political parties have submitted closed lists, comprising 3,424 candidates competing for 110 PR seats. Of these parties, 54 will contest the election using their own symbols, while 10 will use a common election symbol.
In total, 93 political parties had applied to participate in the PR system. The EC allowed parties to make corrections to their closed lists from January 5 to 11 after completing a preliminary review on January 4.
