KATHMANDU, MARCH 18

The Nepal Police have arrested Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives and Vice-President of CPN-MC, on charges related to gold smuggling.

Mahara was arrested today in Kapilvastu and subsequently flown to Kathmandu via a Yeti Airlines flight from Bhairahawa Airport earlier this morning.

The arrest follows the submission of a report by a high-level probe commission led by former judge Dilli Raj Acharya. The commission, appointed by the government, concluded its investigation after five-and-a-half months, presenting its findings to Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane on Thursday.
