Hospital sans doctors

DIPAYAL: The Dipayal-based Sujang hospital is without doctors for the past two months.

The hospital, which has been running with South Korean assistance, is manned by a Nepali and a Korean doctor. However, the Nepali doctor is absent for the last six months, while the Korean doctor has returned home to pursue further studies, a hospital source said. The health assistant who took charge in their absence has fallen sick. Patients return home without treatment due to the absence of health workers.

Dillu Shripali, staff nurse in the hospital, said, “We are not authorised and trained to diagnose and prescribe medicines for complicated ailments,” she said. At least 40 patients visit the hospital everyday and return home without treatment, she added. “We only look into cases such as bleeding caused by minor injuries and pregnancy.”
