Hot brew costs more than milk in Baitadi

Baitadi, October 19:

Consumers have to cough up two rupees more for a cup of tea in district headquarters of Baitadi district after local eateries decided to raise the price of a cup of tea to seven rupees. However, the price of milk has not been increased.

Restaurant entrepreneur Subharam Bhatta said they decided to increase the price of tea from Friday.

“We decided to raise price because the price was not raised for a long time despite frequent rises in the price of other commodities. But the price of milk hasn’t changed from five rupees per cup,” he said.

However, consumers complained that the raise in price had no logic.

“The price of milk and sugar has not increased recently. It can’t be justified. Despite increase in price, the quality of tea hasn’t improved. A cup of tea contains more water than milk,” a local Raj Chand said.

Earlier, the eateries had raised price of Dal Bhat to Rs 50 from existing Rs 35 per plate.
