House endorses Election Offence and Punishment Bill

KATHMANDU: The Parliament on Monday endorsed the Election Offence and Punishment Bill.

After holding discussions on the draft law sent by the State Affairs Committee of the Parliament, the lawmakers endorsed the bill.

It was one of the laws required to hold local, provincial and federal elections in accordance to the new 2015 Constitution.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi had tabled proposals seeking discussions and endorsement of the bill.

Earlier, Speaker Onsari Gharti was forced to call the second meeting today itself as DPM Nidhi was absent in the first meeting.

The first meeting was called for 1 pm today and Nidhi was scheduled to table the bill for discussions.

But, the meeting was halted after Nidhi did not show up even after lawmakers aired their views during the zero hour and the special hour.

Meanwhile, the next Parliament meeting shall take place at 3 pm on Wednesday.
