HoR likely to pass medical education bill
KATHMANDU: The National Medical Education Bill, which was tabled in the House of Representatives without accommodating all the demands of Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr Govinda KC, is likely to be endorsed on Monday on majority basis.
The HoR Secretariat on Sunday included in the probable schedule of the House business discussion on the bill and its endorsement. The government signed the nine-point agreement with Dr KC on July 26 promising to accommodate the contents of the agreement in the bill. But ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) lawmakers got the bill endorsed by the Education and Health Committee and presented it in the HoR.
“The NCP is all set to get the bill passed from the House on Monday,” said NCP lawmaker Yogesh Bhattarai. NCP Chief Whip Dev Gurung said the bill would be passed according to the process of the House. “There has been enough discussion on the bill, so we don’t need further discussion in the full House,” he said.
However, Nepali Congress Chief Whip Bal Krishna Khand said his party had serious reservations against non-incorporation of the agreement reached with Dr KC in the bill. “The government should implement the agreement signed with Dr KC,” he said.
NC lawmakers, including Gagan Thapa, who wrote a note of dissent on the bill, will take part in the discussion on the bill.
