The Parliamentary State Affairs and Good Governance Committee has summoned Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli tomorrow at 11:30am to discuss a recently-published Indian political map that has depicted Kalapani region as Indian territory.

Also, the Parliamentary International Relations Committee has summoned Minister of Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali tomorrow at 11:30am to discuss the same issue.

The government has already stated its position on the issue, saying that is clear about the fact that the Kalapani region is Nepali territory, and that Nepal does not accept any decision taken unilaterally. Issuing a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday that any outstanding issues related to border between India and Nepal should be resolved on the basis of mutual agreement.

Similarly, an all-party meeting held yesterday at Baluwatar also concluded that the recently-published Indian political map was not acceptable to Nepal. The meeting also concluded that the border-related issue with India should be resolved on the basis of historical documents and proofs through diplomatic channels.

State Affairs and Good Governance Committee Chairperson Shashi Shrestha said as there had already been broad-based understanding among all stakeholders on the issue, the committee would seek the prime minister’s view as to how the government planned to move ahead with dialogue with India to resolve the issue.

International Relations Committee member Pushpa Bhusal Gautam also said the panel would seek information from Gyawali as to the government’s efforts to resolve border-related issues and how it planned to move forward.
