KATHMANDU, MARCH 6

Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, has clarified the statement that the Human Papilloma Virus vaccine against cervical cancer was administered as a trail is baseless.

The studies about the HPV vaccine carried out so far showed that the vaccine has been found to be safe and has no serious side effect, he argued.

In course of responding to queries raised in today's meeting of the National Assembly, shared, "This vaccine protect against HPV infection that cause cervical cancer. The vaccine is safe and effective and no serious type of side effect are reported so far."

NA member Madan Kumari Sah (Garima) questioned, "How safe is the HPV vaccine given to the adolescent girls from the point of view of complete health and when the government will make arrangement for this vaccine for men?"

Saying the other countries have started administrating the vaccine to men, Minister Paudel mentioned that homework was underway on whether it could be available from supporting countries.

The government had launched a nation-wide campaign from February 4 where 1.4 million girls were vaccinated against HPV so far.
