Hundreds of vehicles stranded as bridge breaks down in Gaindakot

RATNANAGAR: The vehicular movement along the Narayanghad-Butwal section of East West Highway has been disrupted after a bridge over Jayashree River in Gaindakot collapsed on Monday.

The District Police Office, Chiwan, said that thousands of passengers and hundreds of vehicles have been stranded in Narayanghad, Aaptari and Bus Park from Monday evening.

The efforts to open an alternate route have not been materalised so far. The bridge was brought into operation some three years ago after repairing some damages.

Local residents said that the bridge broke due to the passing of overloaded vehicles.
