IAEA chief ElBaradai meets PM

KATHMANDU: Mohamed ElBaradai, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), who is currently on an official visit to Nepal, today met Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and discussed on a number of areas on which IAEA could assist Nepal.

During the meeting, ElBaradi told PM Nepal that one fact-finding mission of IAEA would visit Nepal on the third week of this month to study the areas of technical assistance.

IAEA is considering the assistance in areas including agriculture, health, cancer research, earthquake and water resources management, Madan Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said. "The fact-finding mission will arrive this month to study on areas of assistance," he added. This is the first high-level visit of the IAEA to Nepal since Nepal joined the IAEA in July 2008. Earlier, ElBaradei visited India as the guest of honour to take part in the International Conference on Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy, held in the Indian capital New Delhi, from 26-31 September.
