An eight-member team of icefall doctors along with two kitchen staff, a garbage management staff, and a base camp manager, left for Mt Everest base camp from Namche Bazaar today.
The team will fix and maintain the Khumbu icefall route for climbers attempting Mt Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse in the spring 2024 climbing season.
The team includes BC Manager Tshering Tenji Sherpa, icefall doctors; Ang Sarki Sherpa, Dawa Nuru Sherpa, Pemba Tshering Sherpa, Ngima Tenzi Sherpa, Nawang Chhimi Sherpa, Dawa Chhiri Sherpa, Dawa Zangbu Sherpa, and Mingma Gyalzen Sherpa) kitchen staff; Ngawang Thanten and Ongdi Gelbu Sherpa, and garbage management staff Yam Bahadur Lama, according to Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC).
"Our icefall doctors will attend a one-day training session at the Khumbu Climbing Center (KCC) in Phortse and a week-long training program at Everest Base Camp prior to the construction of the route.
The Icefall doctors will receive training from renowned climber Conrad Anker and KCC's instructors," said SPCC.
