Ichock locals light village on their own

Sindhupalchowk, Nov 29:

The residents of Sursing of Ichock VDC-9, Sindhupalchowk, have been enjoying the facility of electricity after they installed a peltric set on their own initiative to generate 5-kw electricity by using the water of a nearby stream last April.

Mui Lama Tamang, the president of the committee formed to execute the project, said that the villagers built the Sursing Peltrick Set Project with an investment of Rs 1,175,000.

The villagers geared up to build the project after seeing no possibility of getting electricity supply through the central electricity transmission line, said Tamang.

The government had provided Rs 425,000 and the DDC provided Rs 70,000 for the project. Likewise, Rs 80,000 from the local development fund and VDC’s Rs 60,000 were also used for the project. Local residents had collected Rs 174,000 cash and contributed labour worth Rs 600,000 for this project.

Tamang said every villager contributed 25 days’ labour and 45 per cent of the labour contribution came from the women. Mendo Tamang, a villager who worked for 21 days for the construction of the project, said she enthusiastically took part in the construction of the project for her future generations rather than for herself.

LDO Ramji Prasad Baral, who visited the village to inaugurate the project, said the villagers have really done an imitable deed.
