Illegal lottery tickets being sold in border areas

Indian nationals are openly selling illegal lottery tickets in the marketplace in Bhadrapur and Kakadvitta, Jhapa, but the police administration in the district has become a mere spectator.

Earlier, Jhapa police was more active to stop the buying and selling of illegal lottery tickets. But the lottery tickets are being sold openly of late. Police took actions against half dozen Indian involved selling lottery tickets some two weeks ago. However, police has stopped taking action against such people of late.  A local at Kakadvitta Ramesh Adhikari said Indian citizens had been selling the lottery tickets openly. “Earlier, Indian citizens used to visit the shops and sell the lottery tickets secretly,” he said.

Another local, Purusottom Bastola of Bhadrapur, said the Indian nations came to sell tickets in Nepal on the request of Nepali citizens. The Indian lottery tickets are being sold mostly in Bhadrapur and Chandragadi. Locals said the illegal lottery tickets were being sold mainly in Kameshwor market and utensil shops, among other places.

Meanwhile, police said police had been keeping a close watch on such activities in the area. Police said locals had to help to control such activities.
